Jeffery Straker - A Very Prairie Christmas
A holiday-themed evening with Saskatchewan’s award-winning singer-songwriter pianist Jeffery Straker & his incredible band. Bring a friend, wear an ugly Christmas sweater and get into the festive spirit. Come and see why this show has become a Christmas tradition for so many. Classic and contemporary Christmas songs, story-telling, special guest performances and maybe even an audience sing-along.
The band - including strings, horns & backing singers – is sure to bring some magic to your favourite holiday music. To meet demand for this special show we’ve added a second night.
"Some of my favourite memories of Christmas when I was growing up in small-town Saskatchewan are about the music. People gathered around the piano, singing carols late into the evening with a glass or 2 of cheer. I hope to bring a bit of that musical Christmas magic to the stage with this concert". JS
About the Artist:
Singer-songwriter pianist Jeffery Straker grew up taking piano lessons in small-town Saskatchewan and has gone on to perform over 100 shows per year across Canada, the UK and USA. The storytelling nature of his roots-folk songs has the power to transport a listener - out onto a lake in Canada’s North or to the main street of a prairie town. Critical comparisons have been drawn to the likes of Kris Kristofferson, Harry Chapin & Billy Joel while performances have seen him live on BBC radio in the UK, on festival and theatre stages and even in performance with symphony orchestras. But no matter where he performs…“He has a way of drawing us into his world and making us feel like we’re a welcome guest; an old friend he’s ready to catch up with” (CBC Radio-Saskatchewan Weekend).
Saskatchewan locals may recognize Jeffery as a long-time host and performer on the annual ‘Telemiracle’ telethon. Named “Roots-Folk Artist of the Year” in consecutive Saskatchewan Music Awards, he’s also been awarded the ‘Keyboard Player of the Year’ trophy 4 years running at the Saskatchewan Country Music Awards and has been honoured with a Western Canadian Music Award.
In June of this year Straker released his 9th recording ‘Great Big Sky’. With prairie
Themes in the songs he creatively promoted the album with a concert series performed in grain elevators across Saskatchewan. Several shows sold out. This new release has seen him booked to tour England this fall, and has landed him showcase performances in Nashville and Ireland.
